A new school year!

Since our founding, the heart of Cherish Narok’s Children has been simple and unwavering: to give the children of AIC Siyiapei Children’s Home in Narok, Kenya the chance to learn, grow, and dream through education.

Our work began with one child. She had done everything asked of her—studied hard, passed the national entrance exam, and earned her place in high school. Yet she could not attend, simply because she and her community could not afford the cost. As we learned more, we realized this was not an isolated situation. In Kenya, even public secondary education is far beyond the reach of many families, especially children in the children’s home and especially when children must board away from home.

At AIC Siyiapei Children’s Home, more than fifty children—ranging in age from six to eighteen—depend on education as their pathway to a better future. Faced with such overwhelming need, we knew we could not do everything, but we also knew we had to do something meaningful. We made a promise: to keep these children in school through high school.

Six years later, that promise still stands. Every child is in school. Even as fees have risen and new uniform requirements have been introduced with the transition to junior secondary education, our commitment has not wavered. Because of the generosity of Cherish Narok’s Children donors, these children are not being left behind—they are learning, progressing, and moving closer to lives filled with hope and possibility.

We are deeply grateful to our donors for making this work possible. A few of our high school students have been fortunate to receive additional support from individual sponsors. Recently, a local Kenyan bank generously stepped forward to sponsor a child, and one primary school has welcomed two children from the home. All of the remaining children have relied entirely on Cherish Narok’s Children for their educational needs over the past six years.

January marks the beginning of a new school year in Kenya for primary and secondary students (college students begin in the fall, as they do here). As this new year begins, we are happy to share the smiling faces of children preparing once again for school—hopeful, proud, and ready to learn.
